Wallace dismisses ambitions but does not shut the door on 10 Downing Street.


Foreign Secretary Liz Truss came in second with 6%, followed by former Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt and international trade minister Penny Mordaunt.

“I want to ask you what you think of that polling and if your Tory colleagues chose you as party leader, would you serve?” the interviewer asked.

“Uninterested in a pitch for leadership really,” a surprised Mr Wallace said. I’m extremely fortunate to work in a field about which I’m knowledgeable and enjoy doing at a time when nothing is more important than keeping people strong and safe and asking society to stand up for our values.

“I am one of the fortunate people who gets to put our beliefs into action, which is to try to defend those who cannot defend themselves.”

“There are a lot of people who want to help Ukraine more, and I get to do that.”

“So the idea that I’d be interested in leadership…I’m not sure I’d want to be Prime Minister.”

The former Scots Guаrd аnd current Lаncаshire MP hаs emerged аs а populаr replаcement for Boris Johnson.
