Ukrainian army positions are vaporized by a Russian thermobaric missile launcher – VID

After Russian soldiers targeted the area with thermobaric rockets, a drone captured the terrifying moment missiles rain down on Ukrainian positions. Thermobaric weapons have become a defining feature of Russian military operations in Ukraine, wreaking havoc with massive fireballs erupting on impact.

A salvo fired from giant TOS-1A launchers hits a small cluster of low-rise buildings, according to footage shared on Russian Telegram.

The thermobaric TOS-1A MLRS system works similarly to a fuel-air bomb in that when it explodes, it sprays highly flammable fuel vapour in all directions.

A second charge ignites the mixture, resulting in a massive firestorm and shockwave that can rip through bunkers and rupture internal organs.

Unlike other lethal munitions like cluster bombs, the use of the terrifying weapon is not prohibited by any international arms treaties.

The video was released as Ukraine’s military announced on Tuesday that it was working to evacuate all remaining troops from the besieged port of Mariupol, ceding control of the city to Russia after months of bombardment.
