The UK government intends to notify Rwandan migrants of their deportation plans this week.

Priti Patel, the Home Secretary who signed the agreement with Rwanda to accept asylum seekers, announced the move this evening (Monday).

“Britain’s asylum system is broken,” she said, “because criminals exploit and smuggle people into our country at enormous cost to UK taxpayers.”

“Through Rwanda’s world-leading migration partnership, those making dangerous, unnecessary, and illegal journeys to the UK may be relocated to Rwanda, where their asylum claims will be considered and where they can rebuild their lives, helping to disrupt the people smugglers’ business model and preventing loss of life.”

“This is only the beginning of the process, and we expect it to take some time because some will try to sabotage it by delaying removals.”

“I will not be deterred from implementing the changes that the British people voted for in order to regain control of our money, laws, and borders.”
