Sunak to pull the rug out from under Truss in last-ditch attempt to derail EU masterplan

Foreign Secretary Ms Truss is on the campaign trail following the local elections, but sources tell The Telegraph that Mr Sunak and Mr Gove are attempting to derail her. According to reports, Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis will urge the Democratic Unionist Party to enter a power-sharing agreement with Sinn Fein because the Northern Ireland Protocol issues have yet to be resolved. Mr. Gove prefers a “slightly softer approach and more time to talk,” whereas Mr. Sunak has “always had a problem with unilateral action” because he believes the cost-of-living crisis will worsen. Mr Lewis is meeting with the leaders of the DUP, Sinn Fein, the Alliance, the Ulster Unionist Party, and the Social Democratic and Labour Party on Monday. Mr Raab, the Deputy Prime Minister, said on Sunday that the issue must be resolved within “weeks and months.” Mr Sunak and Mr Gove, according to another government source, were interfering with the process.
