According to a new rumor, SEGA is currently working on a new 2D Sonic game. The information comes from a very active leaker named Zippo, who hasn’t always been reliable.
As previously stated, it would be a sequel to Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush, similar to how Sonic Mania followed up on the classic Mega Drive games. We’ll be able to play as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, it appears. If that’s the case, it’ll be the first “modern” game to feature all three playable characters since Sonic Advance 3 in 2004.
Sonic Origins, a compilation of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, is set to be released by SEGA. However, it is “only” a compilation of old chapters, and a new 2D game would come as a huge shock to historical fans.
SEGA is аlso working on Sonic Frontiers, а 3D gаme set to be releаsed in 2022. Assuming the new 2D chаpter exists, it аppeаrs unlikely thаt it will be releаsed until next yeаr, if аt аll.
