The Netflix streaming service recently had to announce falling subscription numbers for the first time after a long period of uninterrupted growth. As a result, the provider not only took the first steps toward austerity, including the cancellation of several projects, but also toyed with the idea of launching an advertising-supported streaming service. This could begin much sooner than previously anticipated.

Advertising on Netflix in 2022?

According to a recent report from the New York Times, Netflix could launch an ad-supported version before the end of the year. The magazine cites two unnamed sources who claim to be intimately familiar with the situation.

Although the anonymous sources did not specify a specific date, such a scenario does not appear to be ruled out. Netflix should be very interested in regaining subscribers after the negative trend that was only recently revealed.
