Due to recent walking difficulties, the 96-year-old monarch decided not to attend this afternoon.
Following a conversation between the Queen and her aides, Prince Charles will stand in for her at Parliament.
“The Queen continues to experience episodic mobility problems, and has reluctantly decided not to attend the State Opening of Parliament tomorrow in consultation with her doctors,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
“The Prince of Wales will read The Queen’s Speech on Her Majesty’s behalf, with The Duke of Cambridge also in attendance, at Her Majesty’s request and with the agreement of the relevant authorities.”
