According to people familiar with the situation, several large Chinese tech companies are reportedly reducing shipments to Russia. Lenovo Group Ltd, a PC manufacturer, and Xiaomi Corp, a smartphone and gadget maker, are among them. Xiaomi sold the second most phones in Russia last year, but its shipments have since been reduced.

However, because Beijing opposes the crippling Western sanctions imposed on Russia, these companies have yet to publicly announce their business decisions.

While Russia hoped that China would provide a trading lifeline as the West cut ties, that hope appears to be fading.

From February to March, China’s tech exports to Russia plummeted, with laptop shipments falling by more than 40%.

Shipments of smartphones were also reduced by nearly two-thirds.

According to the most recent available Chinese government trade data, telecom base station exports have dropped by 98 percent.
