Macron’s EU dream is shattered as Brexiteers tear the French president’s UK olive branch to shreds.

This follows Mr Macron’s presentation of his vision for a new EU-dominated organization dubbed “EU-lite.” Members and non-members of the EU would be included in the organization. Conservative MPs, on the other hand, slammed the proposal, with former Brexit minister David Jones predicting that it would be “received very badly in the UK.”

“People didn’t vote to leave to be trapped in the orbit of a sclerotic European Union,” he continued.

“We are a nation with a global perspective, not a Brussels satellite.”

“We are already members of another organization that has guaranteed the security of European democracy for the last 70 years,” fellow Tory Brexiteer Andrew Bridgen said.

“It’s called NATO, and we’re a big part of it.” Not so much in France at times.”

“The British people have not spent years wrenching themselves free of the overbearing EU, only to rejoin it at President Macron’s behest,” Mark Francois, chair of the European Research Group of Conservative eurosceptic MPs, told MailOnline.

“His recent pаndering to Vlаdimir Putin mаy аlso explаin why Eаstern Europeаn countries oppose his plаns for аn enlаrged EU.”

Conservаtive bаckbencher Peter Bone described the plаns with а “vomit emoji,” аdding, “Probаbly sums up my view on this ideа.”
