Rather than the DUP, Taoiseach Micheál Martin blamed the British government for the “main stumbling block” in resolving the Northern Ireland protocol issue. “I wouldn’t normally use Twitter to reply to Micheal Martin, the Taoiseach, but, as he accuses me personally of wrecking the talks last year, I feel I must respond,” Lord Frost said on Twitter. The claim that the UK has not established a “landing zone” is simply false. “If the Protocol problem is to be resolved, Ireland and the EU must engage with what we have actually said.” He continued, “If the Protocol problem is to be resolved, Ireland and the EU must engage with what we have actually said.” I’ve always been clear that a negotiated solution is preferable. But it’s hardly surprising that unilateral action is on the table if HMG positions are ignored or misrepresented.”
