In a tense call, obstinate Brussels REFUSES Brexit negotiations, with Truss threatening to go nuclear.

The Foreign Secretary held last-minute talks with her EU counterpart this morning in a last-ditch attempt to break the deadlock over the Northern Ireland Protocol’s frictions.

However, European Commission Vice President Maro efovi has steadfastly refused to compromise.

“The Foreign Secretary outlined why EU proposals would take us backwards by creating more checks and paperwork,” a Foreign Office spokesperson said.

“Vice President efovi confirmed that there was no room to expand the EU negotiating mandate or make new proposals to reduce overall trade friction.”

“The Foreign Secretary expressed regret for this and stated that the situation in Northern Ireland is a matter of internal peace and security for the United Kingdom, and that if the EU does not show the necessary flexibility to assist in the resolution of those issues, then as a responsible government, we will be forced to act.”

The UK is expected to introduce legislation next week to override aspects of the Protocol.
