In a Brexit olive branch, the EU acknowledges Britain’s strength and offers the UK the presidency of a new security council.

Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands are drafting proposals to bring the United Kingdom back into European foreign policy discussions after Brexit.

“Continental leaders need to say we’re sitting down,” a senior EU official told The Telegraph. “It would be great if you sat down with us.”

French President Emmanuel Macron is said to be against the proposal.

However, speaking at a European Union event in Strasbourg on Monday, the French president expressed support for a new type of “political European community” that would allow countries outside the EU to join “European core values.”
