In the fiscal year 2021, sales of the Yakuza series and its recent spin-offs totaled over 2.9 million copies, according to SEGA’s latest tax report.

Lost Judgment (review), released last September, made a significant contribution to these figures, but we imagine that Yakuza: Like a Dragon and previous installments, which were frequently promoted, also helped the franchise grind numbers.

In general, we’re talking about excellent results for a brand that wasn’t even distributed in the West until a few years ago and had to reclaim the American and European public.

It should also be noted that several episodes were available for free to Xbox Game Pass subscribers and thus did not contribute to SEGA’s reported figures.

The Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio revealed some news about Yakuza 8’s development a few days ago, but it has yet to be officially revealed: we hope that this will happen soon.
