Hungary and Austria have given up their veto over an EU-wide ban on Russian oil, putting Putin’s nightmare into full swing.

According to German broadcaster ZDF, an EU-wide embargo on Russian oil is becoming more likely, and Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia have now withdrawn their veto. It comes as the EU prepares to impose yet another round of crippling economic sanctions on Russia.

According to top ZDF, diplomats said European countries such as Slovakia and Hungary were opposed to a quick import ban, owing to their reliance on Russian oil supplies.

The expected rise in energy prices for consumers following an embargo has raised serious concerns in a number of southern European countries.
