President Ilham Aliyev presented the 96-year-old monarch with a rare Karabakh horse in the courtyard of Windsor Castle. The Queen was photographed smiling and holding a walking stick as she met with representatives from Azerbaijan’s Equestrian Federation.

Azerbaijani sculptor Faiq Hajiyev presented the sovereign with two equestrian-themed sculptures in addition to the horse named Shohrat, which means glory.

The President presented the gifts to the monarch after his country was invited to perform at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations recently.

The gesture was “very kind, very generous,” according to the Queen, who has a lifelong passion for all things equestrian.

The Karabakh horse is an Azerbaijani endurance horse that is used in races and endurance events.

One recently sold for the equivalent of £14,000 at auction.
