Embracer Group, a conglomerate, has announced the acquisition of Montreal-based studios Eidos Montreal, Crystal Dynamics, and Square Enix for a paltry $ 300 million. The deal includes not only the studios themselves, but also a library of over 50 franchises, including Tomb Raider, Thief, Deus Ex, and Legacy of Kain.
The purchase is now subject to regulatory approval, and it is expected to close in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2022-2023, from July to September. Cash will be used to pay for the item.
It’s unclear how the deal will affect the Perfect Dark collaboration between Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics. It’s also unclear how Marvel’s Avengers will maintain their popularity in the future.
