Insider Tom Henderson said in February that after moving under EA’s wing, the Codemasters Cheshire (DIRT 5) team will collaborate with Criterion Games on Need for Speed games.
The merger of the teams was officially confirmed by the publisher today. Criterion now has two locations, one in Guildford and the other in Cheshire. Matt Webster, Vice President and General Manager, will be in charge of both.
There were no layoffs during the merger, according to media reports.
The other Codemasters division, based in Birmingham, will continue to work on Formula 1 games, as well as the WRC.
New Need for Speed will be released exclusively on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in October-November. According to sources, the game will be set in a city modeled after Chicago. The race will feature photorealistic graphics and anime visual effects.
