Renowned Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo toldthat it will replace the Lightning connector in iPhone smartphones with USB-C in 2023. This information came from Kuo’s own survey of third-party companies, he said.
It’s unclear whether Apple will switch to USB-C for the entire iPhone 15 lineup or just a portion of it. Changing the connector will also allow the Cupertino company to significantly increase charging and data transfer speeds, according to Kuo. However, a lot will be determined by iOS.
Apple’s iPhones are the last devices to use the Lightning connector. To improve the performance of third-party accessories like cameras, Apple previously switched to USB-C on the latest iPads and iMacs.
