An ‘explosion’ has shut down a Manchester shopping centre, with firefighters on the scene.

Following reports of an explosion, the White City Retail Park on Chester Road in Old Trafford has been partially closed.

Following the incident, emergency services are believed to be on the scene.

Chester Road, which runs south out of town, is believed to be closed.

Cadent Gas confirmed that engineers are on the scene, but the incident is not believed to be related to the gas network.

The cause of the explosion is still unknown.

Aldi, Currys, M&S, Nando’s, The Gym, and Furniture Village are among the popular retail outlets located within the shopping park.

“We have arrived on scene and are checking our assets,” a Cadent Gas spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News, “but there is no suggestion that this is connected to the gas network.”
