After Liz Truss threatened to rip up the EU deal, Ireland has retaliated.

On Tuesday, Taoiseach Micheal Martin called Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

“We both agreed on the need to see the NI Executive formed as soon as possible,” the Irish prime minister said in a tweet.

“On the Protocol, I emphasized the importance of intensifying EU-UK discussions and avoiding unilateral action.”

It comes as the Foreign Secretary is expected to scrap parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol as soon as next week after failing to reach an agreement with the EU on Brexit.

According to the Times, officials working for Ms Truss have drafted legislation that would unilaterally eliminate the need for checks on all goods sent from the United Kingdom to Northern Ireland.
