On Sunday, Queen Elizabeth II, 96, was feted at Windsor Castle with a star-studded equestrian event. The Royal Windsor Horse Show’s ‘A Gallop Through History’ performance received a standing ovation from Britain’s longest-serving monarch. Tom Cruise and Dame Helen Mirren were among the A-list celebrities in attendance to honor the Queen.

Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which will take place this summer to mark 70 years of her reign, began with the televised show.

Following the death of her father, King George VI, the Queen ascended to the throne in 1952 at the age of 25.

Another somber anniversary for the Queen this year is the 30th anniversary of the Windsor Castle fire.

On November 20, 1992, a massive fire broke out at the monarch’s “primary residence,” destroying large portions of the structure.

According to Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke, the fire caused the Queen “heart-wrenching” grief.
